Christen May Mayer
Lyric Soprano
Hello, friends!
I’m Christen, a soprano based in Oklahoma and Florida. Beyond music, I’m an avid hiker, animal lover, plant mom, and artist. I grew up in Austin, TX, where I trained in ballet with Ballet Austin and sang in school and church choirs. My journey into classical singing began in my junior year of high school when my choir director introduced me to solo repertoire. She encouraged me to prepare Loveliest of Trees by John Duke for a Solo and Ensemble Competition, sparking my deep love for classical music.
A pivotal moment came when I visited my sister in New York and experienced my first opera—Renée Fleming in The Merry Widow at the Metropolitan Opera. I was mesmerized by the grandeur, the storytelling, and the seamless blend of music and movement. Inspired, I attended the Stetson University Summer Opera Camp, which solidified my passion for opera.
I went on to earn my undergraduate degree in Voice Performance from Stetson University (‘19), where I performed roles including Fiordiligi (Così fan tutte), Geraldine (A Hand of Bridge), and Emmie (Albert Herring), as well as sang in the opera choruses of Madama Butterfly, Carmen, L’enfant et les sortilèges, and Turandot with Stetson University, Vero Beach Opera, and Palm Beach Opera.
For my graduate studies, I attended Oklahoma City University (‘24), studying under Dr. Autumn West with coaching from Dr. Sara Chiesa and Jan McDaniel. During my time there, I performed with Oklahoma City University, Painted Sky Opera, OK City Opera, Tulsa Opera, and Lyric Theatre of Oklahoma, singing roles including Suor Angelica (Suor Angelica), Donna Elvira (Don Giovanni), and Zweite Dame (Die Zauberflöte).
Now, I continue to share my voice with communities near and far, finding joy in making music and art wherever I go.
Check out my events page for upcoming and recent performances, I’d love to see you there! Thank you for visiting!
